Day 2 as a NASA JPL Summer Intern
Today was spent working with IT in the morning to get my laptop set up. The process was a LOT smoother than my past internships. Shoutout to Nick! He walked me through everything on the phone and we were done in less than 10 minutes! Honestly, I am getting so used to working remotely that I don’t even know how I’m going to function when I go in person. Will I even know how to properly execute jokes not through my zoom screen?
The entire day was consumed by the mandatory training I had to complete as part of my onboard. This included things like Sexual Harassment, Diversity, Conflict of Interest, Cyber Security, and more. I honestly genuinely liked going through the training because of the fun User interface JPL had. It included a mixture of videos, embedded quizzes, and fun case studies to read. The only pickle I had with it is the fact I couldn’t skip through some parts so when they said the training was going to take 1+ hours, they MEANT IT. I definitely wish I had spent more time going through my team’s confluence page instead but it’s okay! After I finished almost all of the training ( have 1 more left due to a login issue), I got to digging through my team’s onboarding documents starting with an 89 slides powerpoint outlining the Psyche Mission’s SIR (aka System Integration Review). What’s amazing about my team’s confluence page is their extensive acronym list that they conveniently placed in a specific page that I could refer to. Don’t worry guys, I’ll memorize all the acronyms by the end of this summer ;). MANIFESTING IT. I’m actually having a ton of fun reading through the SIR and researching terms that I’ve never heard of before. It’s also cool to refer to knowledge I learned this past semester in my Intro to Aero class + my embedded systems class. I’ll be starting the day super early tomorrow to continue chipping away on the SIR again. wahoo!
