Ehe I’m writing this super late and not on the day I was actually supposed to write it which was Thursday but it’s ok! This day was basically my Friday because this week we had RDO! RDO stands for Regular Day Off and it means that we have that Friday off because we work on a 9/80 schedule where we work 9 hours every day for two weeks so we have every other Friday off! I really love this schedule because it allows me to be able to explore during these 3 day weekends. Today was just reflecting and reviewing what I learned this week. I like rewriting my notes because it forces me to write it neater and reinforce things that I maybe didn’t completely understand at the moment. This week I was finally able to SSH into the linux server and send some commands in the simulations! I also got to learn about the development process of tools in the team and I hope to be writing some code soon! The afternoon was super awesome because I got to get on a call with a badass alumni from my school who works at JPL who I actually ended up reading about on an article written by Stevens. She had an incredibly background as a model who had no vision of pursuing STEM. Then she realized that she wanted a little bit more brain simulation. She then decided to go to college and start with linguistics. Then she took an intro to programming class + a physics class and began to fall in love with engineering. She transferred to Stevens as a Mechanical Engineering major with a concentration on robotics and absolutely smashed it. By the beginning of her senior year, she had offers from JPL, Exxon Mobil, MIT Lincoln Lab and I’ve never adored anyone so much more. She was also just so kind and personable and I really wanted her to be my informal mentor and she agreed to it and I’m so freakin happy! Towards the end of the day, I started making my summary slides which highlights key things I learned in the week, my progress, and some upcoming action items! :) Just a way for my manager and team lead to know what I’ve been up to. Here’s to another week of cool knowledge and hopefully writing some code? ;D xoxo.
